Dr. Fuhou Li, associate professor, a passionate ruminant nutrition scientist from Xinzhou, Shanxi, China. He graduated from the Jilin Agricultural University of China in Jun 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in Grassland Science. At that time, the closest experience he had with agriculture was the several acres of dry land managed by his family in hometown. Seeking knowledge, he attended Lanzhou University where exposed to a lot of the hands-on experience in ruminant production, specializing in high alpine region’s ruminant production, and in Jun 2017 he graduated with a master’s degree in Animal Husbandry. This experience gave him a new perspective on agriculture systems by working closely with local managers, herdsman, animals, and living the realities of the alpine regions. From the moment he started working with ruminants he clearly knew he wanted to be a part of the animal husbandry in China. Through the continuous increase of understanding to animal nutrition, he quickly learned there is a huge need of guidance for improving the quality and efficiency of silage for ruminants’ production, and thus obtained a PhD’s degree in Ruminant Nutrition under Dr. Xusheng Guo in Jun 2021. After that from 2021-2024, he decided to advance his knowledge about the Microbiomes in the silage/rumen by working in the College of Pastoral Agricultural Science and Technology, Lanzhou University as a post-doctoral fellow. He is currently working in College of Animal Sciences in Jilin University of China, mainly focus on the fermentation, conversion and utilization of silage in ruminants. The ruminant nutrition and health, intestinal and feed microbiome, as well as methane emission are also fall within his research field. Dr. Fuhou Li never stopped his steps in these years. He visited with the newfound passion the Animal Sciences Lab in University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign as a visiting scholar from Feb 2025 to Feb 2026. Under Dr. Juan Loor’s supervision, he learned more about NutriGenomics of ruminants, specializing in dairy cow’s production. His career aspiration is to offer the work with humility and obtain a position that allows his knowledge to benefit the overall ruminant industry. In past 5 years, he has published more than 40 peer-reviewed articles in Applied and Environmental Science, Journal of Animal Science and Biotechnology, Animal Nutrition, Bioresource Technology, Microbial Biotechnology, and Animal Feed science and Technology et al. He earned an h-index of 19 in ResearchGate.
